Alright earthlings, to those people who haven't seen one of these, you people might be living in a cave or deep deep down in the bottom of the earth's bum if you have not seen a shemagh :D Yes it's called a Shemagh. Don't worry you are not alone. I just found out yesterday when I searched it online. All this time I thought it was just an Arabian style scarf. I found out about these scarfs like a year and half ago and I thought hmmmm I thought it was a towel when I laid it down on a table, but it says it was a scarf so I ended up getting one from this store and used it as well--a scarf.
All I can say is... eyeloveit (I don't wear everytime, because as you know it's a desert where I live). But then controversies blah blah blah this and that-- concerning these arab scarves or others call them as palestinian scarves, yashmag and ghutra, and keffiyeh(there's a million more names!) Anyway it's been gathering news among youth because of the political message they exude.
From the Santiago Times: "The keffiyeh scarf was originally worn by Arab men in rural areas...Yasser Arafat, a Palestinian leader made it a symbol of Palestinian nationalism...and that usage of it evokes Palestine's natural connection with the land and resistance to Israeli occupation."
There's plenty more news about the usage of keffiyehs today (just google)-- whether it's just fashion or something to do with political yada yada. Lol even Meghan McCain was talked about too here: McCain's Daughter Dons Islamic Scarf.
But if you are wondering how to tie a shemagh,
Hookah4less have some videos to show.
Peace!
